What could you be paid?
For benefit years beginning July 1, 2026 or later, the weekly maximum is $1,150 before any qualifying dependent allowance. The base benefit minimum is $148. Use DLT’s calculation for your covered wages; older benefit years keep their applicable rate.
Who may qualify?
For claims effective January 1, 2026 or later, generally at least $19,200 in base-period wages. An alternative test requires at least $3,200 in one quarter, total wages at least 1.5 times the highest quarter, and at least $6,400 in taxable base wages. Covered contributions and other conditions apply.
What protects your job?
TCI includes restoration and health-benefit continuation rights, subject to program conditions. Do not assume the separate TDI medical benefit has identical restoration rules.
Recovery leave and bonding
TDI is for your own certified disability; TCI is for bonding or caregiving. TCI weeks count against the overall TDI/TCI benefit-year allowance.
Notice, dates, and deadlines
Apply for TCI within the first 30 days after the first leave day, and bond within the first year. Do not file before leave begins. TCI is up to eight weeks in 2026; split periods generally require at least seven consecutive days out of work. Confirm advance employer notice.
How to apply
Apply through Rhode Island DLT’s TDI/TCI system. Use the bonding form and required relationship documentation. TCI is not the same as TDI partial-return-to-work benefits.
Before you choose your dates
Ask for one written timeline showing the source of pay and the protection for each part of your absence. Include prior leave used, any waiting period, employer top-up rules, health-premium payments, and the first scheduled workday after leave. The maximum listed above is not a personal approval.
Your application folder
- Employer contact, work location, hire date, wage records and schedule.
- Proof of birth or placement accepted by the program.
- Medical certification only when the requested leave reason requires it.
- Proposed dates, any split schedule, and the employer’s notice confirmation.
- Submitted forms, receipt numbers, decisions, and appeal deadlines.
After approval, check whether continuing certifications or weekly claims are required. Report work, other payments and date changes accurately. A state payment approval does not automatically update the employer’s absence record.
